INDIANAPOLIS - A Texas man has been convicted of murder, 14 years after he beat an 83-year-old Indianapolis man to death.

Frank U. Tiller, 51, was arrested last year in Orange County, Texas, in connection with the Sept. 3, 1999, killing of Victor "Bud" Gregg, 83.

Gregg was jumped when taking out the trash behind his home at 225 N. Sheffield Ave. and robbed of $6, police said.

The case went cold until detectives found a piece of evidence from the crime scene that hadn't been tested for DNA.

Once it was tested, it led them to Tiller, who they were able to put within two miles of Gregg's home five hours before he was killed.

Tiller was convicted Thursday. His sentencing is set for Oct. 17.
