INDIANAPOLIS - Firefighters prevented flames from spreading to a nearby residence Saturday morning after a detached garage caught fire on the east side.
Fire crews said they arrived on scene of a reported fire on the 4500 block of Young Avenue to find a one-car wood frame garage aflame and already collapsed. The fire had spread to surrounding trees and had downed nearby power lines.
Firefighters quickly got the fire under control before it could spread to a nearby residence. Officials said no one was home at the time of the fire.
Battalion Chief Howard Stahl estimated the damage at $7,500.
