MARION, Ind -- Police in Marion, Indiana have arrested a man in connection with a hit-and-run that killed a 16-year-old girl.
Reamey M. Bell, 16, of Sweetser, Indiana, was found around 5:30 Thursday morning in the 700 block of S. Miller Drive. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
During the investigation, police met with Teresa Wilkerson, 44. Wilkerson said she had just left her house nearby and saw a woman run to the back of a vehicle parked in the driveway of a house. She told police that as she passed the vehicle, it abruptly backed out and pinned the girl between the two cars. The impact of the collision caused Wilkerson's vehicle to spin around 180 degrees in the road.
The car that was parked then drove forward and drove away.
Police talked to the man who lives in the house where the car was parked. The man said Bell had spent the night with him and another woman. The other woman said they heard a scream sometime around 5 a.m. and got up to see Bell lying in the road.
The car was found parked in the 3600 block of South Nebraska Street around 11 am Thursday.
The owner was located at that address and taken for questioning.
Police have identified the driver as Pedro Garcia, 20, of Marion.
Authorities say Garcia admitted to being at the scene of the accident and being the driver of the car.
He was arrested on a charge of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death.
Police say there could be more charges as the investigation continues.
