JACKSON COUNTY, Ind. - Officials are investigating after a 17-year-old was found dead in a submerged vehicle.

According to the Department of Natural Resources, a Mitsubishi left the road and plunged into the White River Wednesday evening.

The car entered the water just after 5 p.m. from County Road 250E near Shieldstown in Jackson County, DNR officials said.

Two males from Seymour, 18 and 19 years old, escaped the vehicle through broken windows and called 911, but a third passenger, Brooke Hawn, 17, didn't make it out of the car.

Hawn was found dead in the vehicle when a wrecker pulled it from the water, officials said.

An autopsy has been scheduled to determine Hawn's official cause of death.
