INDIANAPOLIS - A grandmother and two children escaped a burning home on Indianapolis' west side, but a dozen puppies perished in the blaze.
Jacqueline Bell said she was at her daughter's home at 3174 Eagledale Drive watching her two grandchildren, ages 1 and 3, just before 1 p.m. Thursday when she smelled something funny and spotted smoke coming from a back bedroom.
Bell was able to get her grandchildren and their Rottweiler, Sadie, out of the home, but she wasn't able to grab the puppies from their crate.
Indianapolis and Speedway firefighters made an aggressive interior attack, but they were not able to reach the puppies in time.
No injuries were reported. The damage to the home is estimated at $60,000.
