Greenwood man arrested on felony child porn charges

Robert Todd McCarthy, 46, in custody

JOHNSON COUNTY, Ind. - A Greenwood man was arrested after police accused him of several felony counts of child pornography.

On March 13, the Greenwood Police Department cyber detectives traced a downloaded child porn file to a computer in Greenwood.

Through their investigation, the detectives determined the computer was located in an apartment in the 500 block of West Smith Valley Road in the Cedarbrook Apartments.

After getting a search warrant, police determined that Robert Todd McCarthy lived in the apartment with his wife and 4-year-old son.

According to the police report, McCarthy admitted to being interested in child porn and that he had been downloading it from the Internet since 2003.

Detectives confiscated McCarthy's computer for further investigation.

On Thursday, police said they got a tip that McCarthy might try to leave Indiana to avoid arrest and prosecution.  He was later taken into custody at the Johnson County Jail and held on a $100,000 bail.

McCarthy faces felony charges of child exploitation, possession of child pornography and a misdemeanor charge of reckless possession of paraphernalia.
