FORT WAYNE, Ind. - A spokesman says a confinement officer at the Allen County Jail in Fort Wayne was seriously injured when he was attacked by inmate.
Sheriff's department spokesman Jeremy Tinkel tells WANE-TV the officer, whose name was not released, was knocked unconsciousness and suffered a severe head injury in the attack Wednesday morning. He was listed in serious condition at a Fort Wayne hospital.
Tinkel says an investigation has begun to try to determine what sparked the attack. He says the name of the inmate who struck the officer will not be released.
Tinkel says the jail has been placed on lockdown.
