CARMEL, Ind. -- While Hamilton County is one of the most affluent counties in the state, there are still people struggling daily. The Trinity Free Clinic aims to help those people.

“We saw people from almost 85 countries last year,” says Dr. C.M. Hennessee, a physician at Trinity Free Clinic. “They all have to live in Hamilton County, and people just don’t realize what need there is here.”

With more than 375 volunteers, the Trinity Free Clinic is on pace to treat nearly 4,000 low income and underinsured people this year in Hamilton Co.

The clinic provides medical, dental and vision care for free.

“It’s really neat to just know that there is always help available when it can be difficult to get help yourself,” says Gurinder Sembhi, a patient, as she sits with her family waiting to see the doctor.

She says, “I think it’s a great help for my parents, as well, just knowing that they don’t have to pay for every single thing and know that someone is willing to help.”

Trinity Free says their average patient earns $25,000 a year for a family of four, and that group of people has been rapidly growing every year.

“Just going to pay your insurance premiums, I think at my work right now it’s $1100 a month,” says Eric Whiteman, a patient who lives in Westfield. “And you can’t afford it.”

The clinic says they treat people with jobs and have families, but who just need a little help to get by.

“These people have no access to other care,” says Dr. Hennessee. “Their only access to care is to go to the emergency room and that’s a $300 or $400 charge right off the top. Our care that we give here is free.”

Trinity Free Clinic is a faith-based nonprofit medical facility, founded in 2000, on the campus of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church.
