HAMILTON COUNTY, Ind. -- Although fall has just begun, we are already looking to winter. New this year, the Carmel Winter Market will move to a different location and start earlier.

The market still be filled with locally grown food, seasonal treats and specialty items, but it will move three blocks north from Founder’s Park on 3rd Ave SW to the Center Green, home of the Summer Market.

"While we were really pleased with the original facility and thankful for the park working with us, it turns out it's too small for us,” says Ron Carter, president of the Carmel Farmers Market. “The maximum amount of vendors we could have there was 24, and this year we will open this market with 41 vendors."

With nearly double the vendors, Carter says they will have a much larger variety than in years past; everything from fresh vegetables, to honey, to soups and baked goods.

"We think this will be a great move for the market and we are really looking forward to the increased variety of product for people to choose from,” Carter says. “And while it's not a new, modern building, I think it will have a funky charm."

The new site will be more centrally located for all Carmel and greater Indianapolis residents.

"I think we can expect 1,000 people every Saturday at the new location,” he suspects.

By the end of the Summer Market, wrapping up on Saturday, Sept. 30, they will have had 80,000 people shop the market this year.

The Winter Market will also begin two weeks earlier on Oct. 21 and run through Feb. 24. However, it will be closed on Dec. 23 and Dec. 30. Hours are from 9 a.m.-noon on Saturdays.

New vendors include: The Walking Waffle, Dandy Breeze Creamery, Circle City Sweets, Old Major, Circle City Kombucha, Café Baby to Go, Red Frazier Bison and Guacamole, to name a few.

In its seventh year, the Indiana Design Center and The Residences at the Carmel City Center are new sponsors of the market.

The committee is searching for volunteers to assist with the market.
