CARMEL, Ind. -- Chalk up another accolade for Carmel, Indiana.

The Indianapolis suburb was recently named the No. 1 place to live in the United States, according to a study by 24/7 Wall St.

Carmel was given high marks for its low poverty and crime rates, as well as its high median home value.

Nationally, there are about 386 violent crimes per 100,000 people. Carmel sees about 28 violent crimes per 100,000 year. The city's poverty rate of 3.9 percent is also in the bottom 10 percent of American cities.

"We have always strived to do things differently in Carmel, to be innovative in our approach to the quality of life and its importance to economic development, which is why we continue to be recognized nationally while keeping our tax rates the lowest of any major city in Indiana,” Carmel Mayor Jim Brainard said in a release.
