HAMILTON COUNTY, Ind. -- A bus driver for Hamilton Southeastern schools tested positive for alcohol use after driving students to school Thursday morning.

An alert sent out to parents with students in the district said they received a tip that one of their bus drivers may have been under the influence of a controlled substance while driving students.

The driver was taken to the district's health center for drug and alcohol testing and was sent home after she tested positive.

The Fishers Police Department was contacted and is investigating, but police say because they did not witness any crimes or administer the test themselves it could be difficult to file criminal charges.

The driver, who has not been identified, has been with the district since 1997. Hamilton Southeastern Schools say she has 92 students assigned to her route which services Hamilton Southeastern School, Fall Creek Junior High School and Brooks Elementary School.

No arrests have been made.

“We do not tolerate any behavior that compromises the safety of our students,” the school said in a release Thursday afternoon. "Our 300 bus drivers are required to submit to random drug tests, in-service training, and other activities in accordance with Commercial Driver’s License rules and regulations set forth by the Indiana Department of Transportation, Indiana Department of Education."

The driver has been removed from duty pending termination.
