HAMILTON COUNTY, Ind. -- It's a challenge most of us would not attempt but a Zionsville man completed a 24-hour work out Thursday morning to raise awareness for military veterans with PTSD.

Christian Frederick ran 24 miles and completed 1,200 pull ups, 2,400 push-ups and 3,600 squats in under 24 hours at Fitness Garage in Carmel.

Frederick said he would donate $30 to the PTSD Foundation of America for each "Murph" he completed.

For the uninitiated, a "Murph" is a traditional Crossfit workout.  According to Frederick, it's generally completed on Memorial Day each year to honor military personnel and Navy Seal Michael Murphy who passed away during Operation Red Wings in June 2005.

Frederick's "Murph" included a one mile run, 100 pull ups, 200 push-ups and 300 squats.

Oh yes, he also did it while wearing a weighted vest.

The PTSD Foundation says a $30 donation, "provides the tools necessary to help one veteran and their family get the help that we provide."

Frederick says he grew up in a home where his parents always told him to have the utmost respect for military veterans, but it wasn't until he attended the Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina that he truly came to understand the sacrifices those veterans have made.

"You always hear about PTSD, but once you get to truly know someone who had suffered from it, it is something else entirely.  It was then that I decided that at some point, I would love to give back to those veterans who suffer from PTSD, who carry a burden that us ordinary civilians could never understand," said Frederick.

Frederick ended up raising over $3,305 during his 24-hour challenge which will benefit more than 101 veterans.
