FISHERS, Ind. – They’re not old enough to vote, but they did help a lot of people cast ballots Tuesday.
Peppered among the adults, teenagers worked the polls in Fishers to get their first dose of election day.
The Hamilton Southeastern students skipped school for the day, but it’s no walk in the park – they’re not playing hooky. They spent upwards of 15 hours at the polls.
They worked as poll clerks and judges, taking the job very seriously at Holy Spirit Parish at Geist Catholic Church.
Some of the students – who took excused absences for the day – were there because of their social studies classes. Others say they wanted to be there because of the candidates.
“I really like Bernie Sanders, which probably isn’t something you hear a lot in Fishers,” HSE senior Grace Bohlsen said. “But I do, so that’s what got me interested in this election in particular.”
