GREENFIELD, Ind. -- A man from Greenfield is going to prison a second time for making and selling meth.
Shawn Elkins, 46, pleaded guilty to two felony charges stemming from his latest arrest and was sentenced to four years in prison, followed by three years of probation.
Elkins was initially charged with three felonies, but one count of meth possession was dropped as part of his plea deal with prosecutors.
Elkins was arrested following an investigation of a neighbor’s house in March. Court documents show police responded to a home near Walnut and Pennsylvania Streets, about two blocks northwest of the courthouse square in Greenfield, after another person who lived nearby called 911.
The caller said someone was using a flashlight to peek into another home in the neighborhood.
Police found the door open to a home belonging to Elkins and discovered a powder inside that later tested positive for meth. Prosecutors say undercover officers later arranged to buy meth from Elkins, and he was arrested in May.
State records show Elkins had previously served a seven-year sentence for a meth-related arrest in 2004. He will enter a drug treatment program while he is in prison for his current sentence, and court documents show he must remain drug free as a condition of his probation after he is released.
