HANCOCK COUNTY, Ind. -- Hancock County food pantries say they’re seeing a larger-than-usual number of people looking for help this holiday season.
Pantries like Angel Connection and Groceries of Grace are working hard to assist those in need. People like Deborah Gregory.
“We appreciate it. Like I said, we’d be going hungry,” Gregory said. “When I got out of the nursing home, I had surgery. If it wasn’t for them, I don’t know what I would have done. Because I didn’t have my food stamps yet.”
Donna Foster, administrator at the Angel Connection pantry, says a lot of times the needs extend beyond groceries.
“They need to talk. To talk about their families, about how hard it is,” Foster said. “And sometimes they need a hug to feel wanted and that closeness that somebody is helping them. And it warms my heart to be doing that.”
