HANCOCK COUNTY, Ind. -- A semi driver has died after crashing his tanker full of oil into a bridge Wednesday morning. The crash caused the tanker to spill its contents over the interstate, closing lanes of traffic for several hours.
The crash happened in the eastbound lanes of the 95 mile marker of I-70. Indiana State Police say a semi left the road and crashed into the bridge at Mount Comfort Road.
The impact of the crash was so severe, it ripped the tanker into two pieces. The Indiana Department of Environmental Management and a hazmat crew were both called to the scene to help with cleanup.

The driver of the tanker was transported to the hospital where he later died. his identity has not been released.
The crash remains under investigation by Indiana State Police.
The driver was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
The eastbound lanes were closed as crews cleaned up the crash, but the spilled oil was getting spread over the interstate by westbound traffic, so police closed both directions at 10 a.m., according to ISP Sgt. John Perrine. One lane of I-70 eastbound opened shortly after noon.
