HENDRICKS COUNTY — Investigators are looking for the cause of a Wednesday fire at Ray's Trash Services in Hendricks County.

The fire broke out before 10am inside a building where trash is stored and compacted.

Ray's is on U.S. 40 in Clayton, just west of Plainfield.

Extreme cold was just one of the challenges firefighters from multiple departments faced.

Large amounts of compacted trash in tight spaces made the work difficult, according to a spokesman for the Plainfield Fire Department.

The two-alarm fire forced the closure of U.S. 40 in both directions for more than three hours.

Eastbound lanes remained closed into the early evening.

There were no injuries to firefighters or employees of Ray's.
