AVON, Ind. -- IU Health West Hospital in Avon announced a new expansion last week.
The project is in the planning stages now but will be complete by 2021, according to Doug Puckett President of the hospital.
"The expansion is for several reasons. One is we have a large number of patients wanting to come to IU Health West that we are just not able to take care of, so we transfer a large number of patients out. In fact, last year we transferred around 1700 patients out of the hospital that could have been taken care of here. So we need more space," said Doug Puckett, President, IU Health West Hospital.
The addition to the hospital will include 48 new adult beds, a new Catheterization lab and an increase in the operating room capacity.
IU Health West Hospital opened in December of 2004.
