NEW CASTLE, Ind. -- The mayor of New Castle says he's not impressed with the work that's being done on a major construction project in his city.
Mayor Greg York believes the work being done on State Road 38 is taking way too long, and he also thinks the quality of work is substandard and potentially dangerous.
"They have put in handicapped sidewalks that have step downs that are impossible to tell a blind person that there is a step there and where they are supposed to go for a handicap ramp. They 've put numerous curbs and sidewalks in and left old drain grates in and the teeth are missing on the drains."
INDOT says federal guidelines from the American Disabilities Act determine what goes on a corner and says there are safety devices that could be installed.
The 3.1 mile-long project should now be completed by June 30.
