INDIANAPOLIS -- In a move that will affect 40 employees, hhgregg is closing part of its warehouse in Indianapolis.

The company said it is restructuring its current distribution network through a new warehouse in Hebron, Ky.

The location at 4161 E. 96th Street is a corporate office, store and a warehouse. The distribution center of the warehouse alone is closing, while the other two sections are staying open.

All affected employees will have the opportunity to interview with positions in Kentucky, find other positions in hhgregg or be connected to a work placement company.

In a statement, an hhgregg spokesperson said the following:

Although difficult, this decision aligns to our strategy of providing our customers with satisfying home solutions at the best possible price.  Customers in the area can expect the same great products, prices, delivery and overall customer service that hhgregg has always strived to deliver. This strategy also includes focus on our key appliance business, inclusive of expansion of our Fine|Lines footprint, adding 25-30 of the strong-performing high-end appliance showrooms.   We have, and will, continue to strengthen our customer experience for On-line and Call Center operations, investing in these critical areas with the addition of roughly 24 new positions, 19 of them in these customer-forward functions in our Indianapolis headquarters.

The employees found out Tuesday. That warehouse has been in Indianapolis, in some form, since 1955.

A distribution center in Chicago is also closing, leading to 21 affected employees in that area.

The transition is expected to be finished in October.
