INDIANAPOLIS - Mayor Greg Ballard issued a yellow Travel Advisory Tuesday morning in Marion County after emergency officials said blowing snow caused drifts on many roads.
Dozens of school districts across southern Indiana announced closures on Tuesday, while many others in central and northern counties delayed their openings.
The National Weather Service was only expecting 2 to 3 inches of snow in most parts of central and southern Indiana, but winds gusting to 30 mph were causing more troubles.
The weather service issued a lake-effect snow warning for northwestern Indiana, where more than a foot of snow is possible in isolated areas.
The strong winds are also pushing wind chills below zero.
