MONROE COUNTY, Ind. - Officials are investigating after a bald eagle was found fatally shot.
Indiana Department of Natural Resources officials said hikers found the eagle in the Hoosier National Forest.
The eagle was found Nov. 5, but officials think it died sometime in early November.
It is unclear if the eagle died where it was found. Officers said the carcass could have been dumped or the eagle might have flown some distance before dying after sustaining the gunshot wound.
Conservation officers did an X-ray to confirm that the bird had been shot.
DNR officials are asking for anyone with information about the incident to call 800-TIP-IDNR. They are offering a cash reward for information that leads to an arrest.
