INDIANAPOLIS -- Hoosiers are helping to stop the spread of a deadly virus thousands of miles from Indiana.

The mosquito-borne disease malaria kills thousands of people in Africa every day.

Without protection, child after child is infected.

At the Indiana Women's Prison, inmates like Michelle Jones are working to change that, though. Jones takes part in a program allowing inmates to make mosquito nets to be shipped to Africa to help fight malaria.

Each mosquito net costs about $14.63 in materials. The prison gives them out for free, but is always looking for donations to keep production going.
