INDIANAPOLIS -

Hoosiers anticipating the arrival of Apple’s iPhone 5 waited patiently in line at Keystone at the Crossing early Friday, hours before the store was scheduled to open in hopes of getting their hands on the mobile device.

Dozens of people camped out overnight in front of the store, and some had been waiting since Thursday night.

“I got here about 4 p.m. Thursday. I’m here for my standard two-year-upgrade for a phone. I wanted to see what religion-like consumerism looks like, so I came to check it out,” customer James Logan said.

“We got here at midnight. We watched movies for a little bit. We went to go get food, then we came back,” customer Lincoln Anderson said.

At 8 a.m., Apple opened its doors to dozens of tech-savvy Hoosiers ready to get their hands on Apple’s latest gadget.

"I sold my old phone and got the new one,” customer Steven Dowd said.

The iPhone 5 is already a best seller with a record 2 million pre-sale orders, company officials said.

"You got to look at it. It's just so much thinner, it's lighter. I had the iPhone 4 for a couple years and it has taken some beatings. It's just time for an upgrade,” customer Bram Wahl said.

Verizon Wireless also carries the iPhone 5 and said it’s highly anticipated because of its features.

“Many customers are excited about (the phone) being able to do FaceTime over cellular. Many devices offer this capability. For this device, that will be one benefit for them,” sales manager Ted Wendling said.

FaceTime is a video calling feature and is a popular app among iPhone users.

Because the iPhone 5 offers extra features, Wendling said customers may need to increase their data plans.

"Keep in mind some of those customers may increase their data usage especially with a feature like FaceTime. Still remember you can activate and use Wi-Fi on many devices. So instead of using the cellular data network, you could possibly connect to a Wi-Fi network as well,” he said.

Customers who pre-ordered the iPhone 5 are expected to receive them in early October.
