INDIANAPOLIS - Dozens of lawmakers and state officials gathered downtown Wednesday to celebrate Indiana's Statehood Day ceremony.
More than 500 fourth graders from around Indiana were also at the Statehouse at noon to celebrate the day that Indiana joined the union 197 years ago.
Indiana history is part of the fourth-grade curriculum.
Special events to mark the annual event, "Hoosier Bicentennial Heroes," was also held at the Indiana State Museum, the Indiana Historical Society and the Indiana State Library.
