PORTAGE, Ind. - A horse had to be euthanized after falling out of a trailer on a busy interstate late Monday morning.
Indiana State Police said the horse fell onto the westbound lanes of Interstate 94 just east of the Portage exit.
Investigators said the 8-year-old quarter horse kicked the rear door of the trailer open before falling out.
"The horse broke one of his legs in the fall and had to be put down at the scene," said ISP Sgt. Ann Wojas.
No vehicles struck the horse. The interstate was closed for a short time so the horse could be removed.
