MARION, Ind. - A house fire in Marion has claimed at least one life today, according to Grant County dispatchers.
The Grant County Coroner was called to the scene of a fatal house fire Sunday afternoon on the 1200 block of E. 29th Street. Witnesses said smoke and flames became so intense so quickly that a person inside the home couldn't make it out.
Coroner Stephen Dorsey identified the victim as David L. Fox, 82, who lived at the residence.
Investigators believe the fire may have been caused by a cigarette Fox was smoking while lying in bed. A neighbor stated that Fox suffered from cancer, and was unable to get out of his bed on his own very well.
