KOKOMO, Ind. – For three decades, a Kokomo man has worked at a neighborhood Burger King, and has only missed one day of work since he joined the team.

Ricky Cardwell, 63, is known for his hard work, dedication and positive personality by coworkers and his community.

"A wonderful guy,” said Mike McKay, who hired Caldwell years ago. “Great personality, great spirit, and he's been one of the best employees we've ever had."

Caldwell’s gestures go further than simply his place of employment. Outside of work, he likes to attend Kokomo High School sporting events where he keeps scorebooks at basketball games.

He once awarded the team with a small, but special gift.

"I can remember when the Lady Kats won state, he took his last dollars and bought them all flowers,” said Myra Allen, Burger King store manager. “He doesn't have a lot of money, but he spent his very last dollar to buy them flowers.  I'll never forget that."

Customers said many people know Caldwell by name.
