INDIANAPOLIS - The state department of transportation is reporting just two months into the new year, it has already received more damage claims than it got all last year combined.
Earlier this month, RTV6 learned INDOT is spending at least $500,000 more than it normally does to repair potholes this year.
Now, we’re learning INDOT is also going to be spending much more paying off drivers who damaged their cars driving over these potholes.
INDOT said that during all of 2013, 591 claims were filed for personal injury or property damage caused by Indiana potholes.
Just two months into 2014, and 659 claims have been filed with INDOT.
Usually only a fraction of drivers qualify and are reimbursed for damages.
