INDIANAPOLIS – An accident on I-465 caused serious injuries, a fuel spill and traffic backup for at least three miles Wednesday afternoon.

Three cars and a semi-truck were involved in the accident that occurred shortly before 4 p.m. in the northbound lanes of I-465, just north of East 56th Street.

Indiana State Police said the accident has “serious” injuries, but none have been confirmed at this time.

Officers said the semi was jack-knifed and leaked a significant amount of fuel into Fall Creek.

Sand and oil dry were brought to the scene to clean up the fuel spill.

All five lanes were closed, but small amounts of traffic passed through using the shoulder of the interstate.
