INDIANAPOLIS - The Indianapolis Fire Department responded to a call of a car in a retention pond Sunday morning.

An unidentified driver thought he was driving down a street, but drove into standing water and a retention pond in the Warren Harbor Apartments in the 9300 block of East 21st Street, a news release said.

A passerby spotted the car just before 9 a.m. and thought there might be a victim in the car.

IFD Units and a dive team responded to the scene, but the working dive rescue was downgraded to an auto recovery.

Flood conditions have led to lane restrictions and road closures.

The IFD reminds the public to avoid driving through barricades or standing water.
