INDIANAPOLIS - A semi driver had to be rescued from his truck after it overturned on Interstate 74 on Tuesday evening, officials said.
Guy Norman Towell, 56, of North Carolina, was driving eastbound on I-74 and told police he attempted to slow down for traffic when his semi jackknifed, striking another vehicle in the process, officials with the Indianapolis Fire Department said.
The semi flipped on its side and trapped Towell underneath the steering column. It took firefighters more than an hour to free Towell, authorities said.
The driver of the second vehicle was unharmed after his vehicle spun around and came to a stop with minor damage.
Towell was taken to Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital in critical condition, officials said.
