IFD fights warehouse fire southeast of downtown

INDIANAPOLIS - Indianapolis firefighters battled flames at a vacant warehouse tonight very near the area where another warehouse caught fire last fall.

IFD sent crews to a fire at a warehouse on the 2000 block of Draper Street around 8 p.m. Friday. The area is just southeast of the Fountain Square neighborhood.

Asbestos tiles burning on the roof of the building were creating hazardous conditions for both firefighters and onlookers, who were pushed back several times.

Firefighters said the warehouse was vacant, and they weren't sure what used to be stored in the building.

No nearby homes were affected, and no evacuations were made.
