INDIANAPOLIS - A man was hospitalized late Saturday after his SUV crashed into a creek on the city's east side.
Indianapolis Fire Department crews were sent to the crash about 10:30 p.m. near 38th Street and Post Road. IFD firefighters said the man was speeding in the westbound lane on 38th Street before he lost control of his SUV, hit two utility poles and crashed into a creek.
Emergency crews said the front end of the SUV was embedded into a muddy bank which made the initial rescue efforts difficult. Firefighters said they had to wade through knee-deep water around live power lines to pull the man out of the SUV.
Once rescued, the driver was taken to Eskenazi Health Hospital in serious condition.
Indianapolis Metro Police Department detectives said they suspect the driver was involved in a domestic dispute near 42nd Street and Post Road just before the crash.
