INDIANAPOLIS - The Indianapolis Fire Department reported a decrease in the number of arsons to date for 2013 compared to 2012.
IFD Spokeswoman Rita Burris said there has been a 23 percent decrease of arsons and a 23 percent increase in arson-related arrests.
To date, there have been 284 arson cases assigned compared to 422 from last year.
Burris said IFD firefighters and Indianapolis Metro Police officers cross trained in each discipline to allow for more effective use of resources with regard to investigations, arrests and clearance rates.
