Cause of fire under investigation

INDIANAPOLIS - Crews battled an apartment fire on the city's north side early Friday near 86th Street and Ditch Road.

The fire was reported just before 3:30 a.m. in the 1300 block of Old Town South Drive, dispatchers said.

When firefighters arrived at the scene, they saw heavy smoke and flames coming from the roof of one of the apartment buildings.

Four apartments were involved in the fire and two of them were heavily damaged, officials said.

One person jumped out of a second floor window to escape the flames and one woman was rescued from her second floor balcony.

No injuries were reported, but officials say one resident's cat died.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
