FISHERS -- We're one step closer to being able to shop at IKEA in central Indiana!

Groundbreaking for the new store in Fishers has been set for Oct. 18.

If you're not familiar with the Swedish retailer, we can tell you that there's plenty to love about IKEA.

Here are six of our favorites that we can all soon enjoy without the two-hour road trip:

1. It's cheap
This isn't your average furniture store. Looking for a couch? No longer do you have to save up a down payment for a car to get one. A night-stand? As low as $15. Decorative shelves? Skip the Target trip for that, IKEA has 'em cheap.

And even if you're looking for other home items like pots and pans, rugs or artwork - All that is pretty dang cheap on the bottom floor of the store, too.

2. Mix and match all shapes and sizes
The "Modular" concept allows you to customize just about everything you need. A loveseat with a chaise? You can do that. Four squares of storage or 12? Easy. Just the lower part of the entertainment center or fully enclosed? It's only a few more boxes to do whatever you want, in whatever space you want.

Want to really blow your mind? Check out the 300 square foot "apartment" set-ups they have and see how much IKEA you can squeeze into such a small place.

3. It's neat
Yes, it is technically a chain "box store", but they do a good job of providing unique elements different from your average furniture store. Yes, it's a bit more contemporary of a design, but LOOK AT ALL THE WEIRD LAMPS.

And the bathroom vanities are pretty funky, too. What is a Latjo, anyway?

4. The layout
You can literally get lost in this store. But only in the figurative measurement of time kind of way. The way the store is set up, it guides you from type of room to type of room so you have all the perspectives on what your space could be.

No more "Where are the spatulas?" questions again.

5. The food
If you haven't tried a hot dog, a cinnamon bun or some Swedish meatballs from IKEA, you're missing out. And I KNOW you've never had a lingonberry.

But, seriously, after two hours in the "rooms" floor, that cranky 6-year-old is going to need some dinosaur-shaped chicken nuggets to tide him/her over while you finalize on the accessories/pick-up floor.

6. Delivery/assembly
If you're hesitant to put together the pre-fabricated goodness that comes from IKEA, they offer up some help. Because sometimes it takes seven people to put an IKEA couch together. Sometimes it takes one.

But truly, most of their stuff is very simple, making assembly in the room you want easy-peazy, with no worry of whether or not it will fit through the door.
