INDIANAPOLIS - An 8-year-old boy was critically injured in a disturbance involving a sledgehammer on the city’s east side Wednesday evening, officials said.
The disturbance happened in a home in the 2700 block of Priscilla Avenue just before 9 p.m.
Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said the boy was struck on the head with a sledgehammer.
The boy was taken to Riley Hospital for Children in critical condition following the incident.
Police said the boy was awake and breathing when he arrived at the hospital.
A 12-year-old girl was taken to Riley with minor injuries from the same incident.
Few other details were released by police, but RTV6 learned from neighbors that this incident was part of an ongoing dispute between two families in the apartment complex. Some neighbors we spoke with said Wednesday's incident began with a woman and teenage girl fighting, and the boy was hurt by accident.
