INDIANAPOLIS -- Rocky, an 11-year-old Belgian Malinois, who worked for the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department died Friday.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Facebook page, Rocky died off-duty after serving his final shift on New Year's Eve with his handler Officer Stephanie Humerickhouse.

Rocky has worked with IMPD's Criminal Interdiction Unit since September 2011.

Before working with IMPD, Rocky was a service canine with the Border Patrol in El Paso, Texas.

The post on IMPD's Facebook page said:

As a dedicated, duty-driven narcotics police canine, Rocky loved his work. He looked forward to every work day, not only to ‘get the job done’, but to socialize with the officers, many times with his Kong Toy in tow. All enjoyed time with Rocky and the energy shared would provide Rocky with yet more incentive to complete his duties.

Rocky was an exceptional canine –he looked forward to school trips, to see children during his Canine demos. A true gentle giant, loving, and tender, he will truly be missed by all.

Although Rocky’s End of Watch has arrived, he is now an Angel in Blue who wore his badge with honor every day and will be remembered by his comrades and friends now that he is no longer with us.
