INDIANAPOLIS - A man was shot while walking his dog on the city's northwest side Wednesday morning, police said.
Rex Souter said an SUV similar to the one involved in a high-speed chase and crash pulled up behind him as he was walking his dog in the 5200 block of Glen Stewart Way near 56th and Dandy Trail.
"The guy stuck his hand out the window and extended the pistol and started shooting and I thought there were probably five or six shots, but at that time I was kind of dancing, zigging and zagging, trying to be missed," Souter told RTV6.
Souter said he ran for his life while the SUV drove away, but the car quickly turned around and targeted him a second time, popping off a couple more rounds in his direction.
"I was flabbergasted when they turned around and came back," Souter said.
Souter said he stayed hidden behind a house for 30 seconds until he knew the shooter was gone, then he raced home.
Souter said he was halfway home before he realized he'd been hit.
"It was a single bullet that went through my side, traveled under the skin for several inches but didn't damage anything else, so I was very fortunate," he said.
Police said the man was grazed by a bullet and was hospitalized with non-life-threatening
Police think this incident could be connected to a fatal shooting in Southport , the high-speed chase and crash involving four cars, and a string of other vehicle thefts and robberies.
A 15-year-old and a 17-year-old are being questioned by police.
