INDIANAPOLIS -- IMPD and Mayor Joe Hogsett announced a technology advancement Tuesday they say will make Indianapolis a safer place to live.

IMPD's new Real-Time Data Center was unveiled Tuesday at the city's Regional Operations Center.

The data center will be staffed by police officers and civilian personnel. It will tap more than 100 databases maintained by the department.

"The Center will have the ability to see the likelihood of crimes before they're committed by any individual," Hogsett said. "It will look at known associations of criminals and attempt to predict the how, where and when future crimes may be committed."

IMPD plans to review the data monthly, and to share information with state and federal law enforcement agencies.
