INDIANAPOLIS -- Members of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department are looking for three suspects after a police-involved shooting on the city's northeast side early Wednesday morning.

The incident began around 1:15 a.m., at a gas station on the 2500 block of Sherman Drive. The gas station clerk noticed three masked men were in the parking lot looking suspicious. A police officer arrived, but they had already left.

About 40 minutes later, police say the three men returned. The clerk called 911 again to report them. An officer returned to hear shots being fired inside the gas station.

The police officer then fired one shot toward one of the suspects, a spokesperson on the scene said. The suspect was not hit. The three men then fled the scene.

Two clerks were in the gas station at the time of the attempted robbery and shooting, but neither was hurt. Police said the suspects shot at the safety glass protecting the gas station service counter, presumably in an attempt to take money.

Police brought out a K-9 and helicopter, but haven't found any of the three suspects. The perimeter was lifted around 4:45 a.m.

The officer involved in the shooting is a 28-year veteran of IMPD. Investigators from the critical incident response team will conduct a review of the shooting, per standard department procedure.
