IMPD officer hospitalized after T-bone crash

INDIANAPOLIS -- An officer with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is in a local hospital after a crash late Wednesday night.

Police say the officer was driving west on Kessler Boulevard around 11:30 p.m., when a black Chevy Cruze, driving north on Grandview Drive, went through flashing red lights at the intersection.

The Cruze T-boned the officer's vehicle. 

The officer was able to get on his police radio and call for help. 

He hit had head trauma and was complaining of pain in his lower extremities.

He was taken to Methodist Hospital in serious condition.

The driver of the Cruze had no serious injuries and was out of the vehicle walking around.

Both drivers will submit to a blood draw, per Indiana law.

IMPD will have a crash team at the intersection to take measurements of the scene, IMPD Deputy Chief Valerie Cunningham said.
