INDIANAPOLIS - Indianapolis Metro Police are investigating the first two homicides of 2014.
The first homicide happened just before 1 a.m. in Graydon Street near Temple Avenue on the city's east side. Police said a 16-year-old boy's body was found lying in the street. The victim, identified as Tyrell Alford, 16, of Indianapolis, appeared to have been shot to death. Detectives were searching for suspects and K-9 officers were called to assist with the investigation.
The second homicide was reported just before 2 a.m. on the city's west side at a hotel near the Indianapolis International Airport. Police were dispatched to the 5500 block of West Bradbury Avenue where they found a man who appeared to have been stabbed in the neck. The victim was rushed to Eskenazi Hospital where he later died.
Detectives said they believe the stabbing happened in the parking lot of the hotel, but no witnesses have come forward. The victim, later identified as 31-year-old Kristopher Griner, was not a guest of the hotel, police said.
