IMPD staff chaplain receives prestigious award

INDIANAPOLIS - Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Staff Chaplain David L. Coatie received the Honorable Julia Carson Award at a ceremony Sunday afternoon at Crown Hill Cemetery, a media release said.
The award was presented to Coatie during the 4th Annual Black History Celebration.
The Julia Carson Award is given during Black History Month to a person that embodies the spirit of community service of the late Honorable Julia Carson, the release said.
“We consider our Chaplain Unit a valued asset within the department and directly linked to our efforts to build stronger community relations,” said IMPD Chief Rick Hite.
Coatie has served as staff chaplain for the IMPD for the past three years.
His community involvement includes serving as a board member for multiple organizations such as the David S. Moore Charter School, Davidic Ministries and the Indianapolis Ten Point Coalition.
