INDIANAPOLIS - Two people were shot, one fatally, on the city’s northwest side Thursday evening, police said.
The incident happened in the 1400 block West 28th Street just after 11 p.m.
Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said two people were inside a Chevrolet Impala driving on Harding Street. A third person was running alongside the car and firing into the vehicle, police said.
Authorities said it was unclear if the people inside the car were firing back.
The driver, Tyler Webster, 21, of Indianapolis, was shot through the window and crashed the car.
Webster was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. The passenger in the vehicle was not shot.
The third person, Kyle Lewis, 19, of Indianapolis, ran down the street to a home with a porch light on and asked a woman for help, police said. She called police and the man was later found in a nearby alley with multiple gunshot wounds.
Lewis was taken to Eskenazi Health in serious condition, authorities said. The passenger in the Impala was taken to IMPD's Homicide Department for questioning.
Anyone with information about the shooting was asked to call police at 317-327-3475 or Crime Stoppers of Indiana at 317-262-TIPS (8477). Callers may also text “INDYCS” plus tip information to 274627 (CRIMES).
