INDIANAPOLIS - Schools across Indiana will get more time to administer ISTEP exams after weeks of extreme winter weather forced repeated closures of many schools.
The Indiana State Board of Education voted unanimously at their meeting Thursday afternoon to extend the testing period until March 21.
The decision gives schools an additional seven business days to administer the ISTEP exams and the IREAD exams for third-graders.
Superintendent of Public Instruction Glenda Ritz recently recommended the additional time after many schools around the state had multiple closings due to the weather.
The testing period is set to begin March 3.
