MUNCIE, Ind. - Authorities say a man who told a Muncie police officer he had locked his keys inside his truck stole the officer's police car.

The Star Press reports 43-year-old Muncie resident Kevin Dale Clark faces preliminary charges of auto theft and possession of stolen property following the incident Saturday morning. He was not in jail and couldn't be contacted for comment.

Muncie police Sgt. Jay Turner says the officer pulled into a parking lot shortly before 9 a.m. and was flagged down by man who told him his keys were locked in his truck. The officer went inside the store for a moment, and when he returned outside the man and his police car both were gone.

The newspaper says Clark was arrested following a brief chase by officers.
