Indiana 211, a free confidential service that connects people with resources across the state, will soon offer more comprehensive services.
The call line already refers people to housing, drug addiction and financial resources, but its recent move to the state department of housing and community development could expand those offerings.
Starting July 1, the state director said 211 operators will be able to connect callers directly to state agencies and non-profit organizations.
"We thought that was important because we were looking - as we're looking at the vision and the future of Indiana 211 from transitioning from just information and referral to more of comprehensive care, coordinated care, coordinated entry,” said Julie Johns-Cole of Indiana 211.
Operators answer more than 400,000 calls per year. The service can be used by dialing, emailing or texting 211.
