That’s why Robert Jackson wants to spread the message this week that the shootings need to be addressed in the classroom once schools are back in session.

He says teachers need to acknowledge racism exists, and provide support to students who feel like they can’t do anything to stop the hate.

Jackson is the author of the "No More Excuses" curriculum, featuring the books "No more Excuses: Black Men Stand Up!" along with "The Workbook," "Solutions to Educating Black and Latino Males" and "Put a Stop to Bullying."

He has worked with several schools to create positive change and to bridge the gap between parents, teachers, administrators and students to reverse dropout rates, particularly for black and latino males.

Jackson speaks at the Indiana Black Expo Summer Celebration this Thursday. Watch our video in the player above to hear more from him in the meantime.
